"Learning is change, and the less involved we are, the less change is possible." -- Edward Cell

I live my personal and professional life by these words. A theme that threads throughout my life is taking calculated risks to learn about myself and others, and about our world. I have deliberately put myself in situations beyond my comfort zone to test my limits: I participated in Outward Bound, I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer - Ukraine 1994-1996, I returned to graduate school as an adult to earn my doctoral degree and again to be certified as a life coach. I initiated several innovative programs as an educator; I teach experientially, an alternative approach to college-level instruction.

I am the mother of a disabled son and I know first-hand its heartaches, strains, and joys. To coaching, I bring compassion for those in similar situations, and knowledge of resources available to parents and/or caretakers of disabled loved ones.

Engagement within my community is also important to me; I have served in volunteer positions as a support group leader for my local chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), as vice-chair of the advisory board for our county's volunteer center, as liaison for a mental health referral service, as chairperson of a cooperative education nursery school, and as a food server in a local soup kitchen.

I hold degrees in psychology, counseling, writing and experiential education; I am certified as a coach by the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara, and a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF) and uphold the latter's statement of ethics for coaches. As a coach, I help people find, maintain and regain momentum in their lives as they navigate the inevitable transitions that each of us encounters.

Larry Briggs

Briggs Consulting
Hillsboro, OR 503-997-2270
portrait: Larry Briggs

Larry Briggs is president and founder of V2A Consulting (previously Briggs Consulting); a management consulting firm specializing in helping business leaders initiate growth and manage change. During the last eighteen years of practice he has personally coached and trained hundreds, including CEOs and their management teams and various executive groups.

As a specialist in discovering "what works" in business Larry began his research to discover the fundamental forces at work in organizations that influence both human behavior and business success. In this research he discovered the "Five Business Forces" and then developed a leadership change methodology he has labeled Vision to Action, or V2A. In this change model ten important elements that support leadership and change initiatives are presented, the first of which is Inspiring Personal Vision. As Larry has applied and developed V2A over the years, he has innovated a number of products and processes that "Build Leaders for Life". It is his philosophy that leading organizations are build upon individual leaders within organizations, and that leadership is both a talent and a skill that can be developed.

In his role as an executive coach he works with leaders to discover their strengths using 360 feedback instruments and Emotional Intelligence Assessments. The latest research shows that EQ (the ability to work at a level of emotional awareness with others) is more powerful than IQ, or specific product knowledge in producing results in and through others. Now Vision to Action links to the power of being emotionally aware and skilled to bring all the power offered by EQ into the V2A leadership model.

Our focus is on developing leaders and leadership skills to compete in today's global marketplace where change has become the norm. This includes improving communications, teamwork, work processes, and the ability to produce desired results. Our specialty is helping organizations create their shared vision and values, and to develop the means of making vision a reality.

I am an innovative consultant, catalyst, and educator dedicated to building collaborative, multicultural relationships supporting personal, professional, and organization effectiveness. I strongly advocate for learning in relationship as the most effective means for building organizational and leadership capacity to create a healthy workplace culture. I utilize holistic principles and experiential practices to explore the complexity of human interaction -- building trust and trustworthiness so that people may tell their truth without fear of reprisal.

My work is informed from having lived overseas, in Nepal and Tibet, for ten years. While overseas, I completed a Masters in Intercultural Communications and consulted privately in organizational development — with an emphasis upon multicultural dynamics and cross-cultural adjustment support for ex-pats.

I work in a wide variety of client contexts: municipal, provincial, and federal governments, non-profit organizations, financial institutions, public health authorities, educational institutions (high school, college, universities), youth development agencies, resort tourism, and HR management associations... just to name a few.

I also offer "coaching-for-success" to individuals, executives, and teams. Since 2001, I have been an Associate Faculty member in the Masters in Leadership and Training Program (MALT), Royal Roads University, Victoria, BC. My Ginger Group work with whole systems and Spiral Dynamics includes partnership with Integral City, Abbotsford, BC www.integralcity.com.

Her varied management experience includes human resources development and labour relations, program development and implementation, performance measurement and evaluation, as well as social, economic and financial policy development and analysis. Her business acumen, sound judgment and ability to work with leaders in the highest positions of authority and public trust, led to advising the British Columbia provincial Cabinet on the health care portfolio (a $10 billion annual expenditure) from 1999 to 2001. This sparked her interest and passion for affecting both individual and large systems change.

Since 2002, her coaching and seminar clients have included municipal, provincial and federal government departments, health authorities, emergency health services, and private sector companies ranging from the transportation and safety industry, nuclear energy, and restaurant chains. Her clients consistently report experiencing increased flexibility and responsiveness to change, improved performance and productivity, as well as more satisfying relationships. Lisa holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the University of Victoria; her coaching certification is from the top-rated Academy for Coach Training in Edmonds, WA. "Lisa helped me uncover my core beliefs that were guiding my thought processes. What really blew me away is that she didn't stop there, but gave me tools to challenge my beliefs and change my thinking. I use them every day and it has not only changed my attitude, but it seems to be contagious — my spouse and co-workers are catching on too."
